The Barnes & Noble Summer Internship program is designed to provide students with the exciting opportunity to apply their education in a “real-life” professional setting, while gaining valuable industry experience and transferable skills. This will be a paid 10 week program, in which Interns will partner with Mentors on accomplishing impactful company projects. The program will begin on June 5th and end on August 11th.
The Author Promotions Department arranges and coordinates all details for author events in stores across the country. The Author Promotions Intern will assist with managing details for these events and other administrative duties for the department.
Inputs information on events into AP database and generates the emails that confirm events.
Contacts stores to gather information on results for events that are completed.
Helps to coordinate the development of signs and social media jpegs to promote upcoming events.
Monitors store locator to make sure details on events is correct and up to date.
Maintains AP database for both in-store and publishing contacts.
Performs necessary tasks on site at events to assist as needed.
Students must have HS Diploma or GED and must be enrolled as at least rising Junior in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program, or enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree program.
Must be available to work a 40 hour workweek, Monday through Friday.
Preferred field of study in Communications, Public Relations, or Business.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills as there may be interaction with publishers and authors at event.
Needs to be computer savvy. Ability to work within the AP designed database and to work efficiently with Excel and Microsoft Office.
What You Will Learn:
Will learn the dynamics and details involved in event planning and execution.
Will gain insight into the book publishing industry as we work closely with major publishers as we place authors in our stores for events.
Will learn how events factor in our bookselling business (what value they bring), both from a PR perspective and as a value to our customers.
Will gain valuable experience working within a team that coordinates with many other departments in the company. (Creative, Corporate Communications etc.)
