Description

The Vendor/Product Compliance Analyst is responsible for the collection and analysis of product data and documentation with a proactive approach to assessing risk. The Vendor/Product Compliance Analyst will draft and maintain compliance procedures and protocols; conducting research as necessary and creating relevant process workflows. The Vendor/Product Compliance Analyst will provide input on improvement opportunities to ensure compliance requirements are incorporated in the buying process. The position is also be responsible for various reporting needs of the department.

Essential Functions

• Coordinate activities of risk investigations and recalls: communication, documentation, follow-up, and final disposition of inventory as determined by Department Head and Legal.
• Initiate product recall communication process to stores and internal stakeholders as directed by Department Head; track store response to recall projects, escalate as needed, to ensure completion of task(s).
• Prepare and maintain Conflict Minerals Due Diligence Logs ensuring all relevant information is documented and meets the established internal audit criteria. Review vendor responses and report exceptions.
• Administer and provide insight and analysis to any given certification collection process, and review initial analysis of collected data to identify any BN reporting obligations and escalate to Department Head. Ensure that the collection and storage methodology is in keeping with best practices and department standards
• Conducts initial assessment of safety test and pre-shipment inspection reports and provides options for corrective course of action. Communicates corrective actions to vendors and internal stakeholders. Creates reporting to monitor vendor performance in regard to product safety.
• Initiates communication with Vendors and internal buyers/production managers on compliance issues, as necessary. Follows up to ensure all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
• Work closely with Barnes & Noble designated testing lab(s) to monitor product pre-shipment inspection reports, product test reports, and factory audit reports. Create and maintain reporting to monitor testing lab performance and gaps.
• Maintain communication and participate in internal training and outreach sessions with Merchants and other relevant B&N departments
• Review new products with merchants, analyze product data, and confer with testing labs to determine regulatory requirements on select products
• Conduct research on new regulations, laws or compliance standards and identify applicability and impact on the business

Qualifications

• Possess excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills related to customer support, document storage and retrieval, project ownership and time management
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to support multiple projects
• Strong research, data mining, reporting and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Capacity to work well with diverse groups on multiple projects
• Proficient in MS Office (particularly Excel), Visio and Access
• Must be proactive, a self-starter and flexible
• Some travel between B&N corporate offices and to off-site meetings and seminars as required
• B.S/B.A in Business or related field required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working on vendor or product compliance related projects, monitoring performance and analysis of results in a retail or supplier organization.
