Description

The Corporate Communications Department manages all external and internal communications for the company, with the goal of keeping employees, media, investors, analysts and customers informed in a transparent way, while promoting a favorable point of view of the business. The Corporate Communications team is responsible for developing and executing public relations and media relations strategies, while collaborating with internal and external public relations, marketing and promotion teams. The Corporate Communications intern will support ongoing media relations for Barnes & Noble products, services and events, and assist the internal communications team by writing articles for the quarterly newsletter and the Intranet.

Essential Functions

• Supports ongoing media relations for Barnes & Noble products, services and events by collaborating on press releases, media advisories, media pitches and targeted media lists.
• Assists the internal communications team by writing articles for the Intranet and the quarterly newsletter.
• Monitors media outlets daily for relevant articles about Barnes & Noble, the competition and the industry for regular distribution to internal teams.
• Collaborates with the team on PR efforts and onsite media management for major author events and national book launches.

Qualifications

• Students must have HS Diploma or GED and must be enrolled as at least rising Junior in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program, or enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree program.
• Must be available to work a 40 hour workweek, Monday through Friday.
• Preferred degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations.
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be smart, dedicated and creative with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Be a collaborative team player.
• Be organized with a keen attention to detail.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Be comfortable with technology, such as systems for managing content and editing images.
