Description

The Manager, Engineering and Supply Chain Analysis, is responsible for leading and managing labor productivity and process improvement initiatives including but not limited to developing and implementing labor productivity standards, automation, process standardization, cost-reduction and DC capital improvement initiatives. In partnership with the DC Management, will also conduct financial feasibility studies related to capital equipment and investments required to support current and future business needs for the Reno Distribution Center and responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities and make recommendations in the areas of labor management, operational processes, slotting, storage & pick area design, packing & shipping area design, work area design, and conveyor system design.

Essential Functions

 Establish key performance metrics driving supply chain performance in the areas of: on-time delivery, service quality, cost, and quality compliance.
 Maintain and update SOPs (Standard operating procedures) / WI (Work Instructions)
 Identify and lead projects to analyze and evaluate existing Distribution Center Storage/Work Area/Conveyor Design and will make recommendations to improve capacity, efficiency, and safety.
 Act as a change agent across Distribution & Supply Chain operations to identify, lead, support, and implement projects & change initiatives to best support company business needs.
 Develop proposals and capital requests for necessary building and infrastructure development and upgrades.
 Manage the overall capital budget and projects; track and report on spending; initiate corrective action on project over-runs.
 Evaluate and continuously look to improve the B&N supply chain competitive capability through regular benchmarking of industry best practices.
 Ensures project proposals and capital requests meet pre-determined payback requirements for return on investment.
 Conducts time studies, network analysis, statistical analysis, flow path analysis and supply chain analysis.
 Identifies Logistics process improvement opportunities through competitive analysis, and critical thinking.
 Supports and/or leads cross-functional strategic or process improvement projects.
 Develop business tools and solutions based on knowledge, product or technology.
 Partner with the Reno DC Director to Develop productivity tracking for all DC processes including a full review of the current labor productivity reporting system and standards in order to develop/implement/manage engineered labor standards for the distribution operations.
 Act as the primary Operations contact for new development projects and technology implementation to ensure existing and future processes are in place and able to support an efficient product flow into and out of the Reno Distribution Center.
 Lead/Manage, develop & implement processes and methods for product and labor forecasting, staffing, modeling performance reporting and tracking, and other ad-hoc reporting as required to support distribution center labor management.
 Utilize analytical ability and experience to identify problems and solve issues such as: process failures, service process errors.
 Utilize the principles of LSS to help prioritize / re-prioritize tasks, carry out root cause analysis, and propose solutions.
 Review and understand the Knighted Warehouse Management System's Business Requirement Documents (BRD) and Technical Specifications.

Qualifications

 Knowledge of the transportation industry, principles of inventory management, general accounting practices, purchasing techniques, and elements of the physical distribution system will be a PLUS.
 A solid understanding of warehousing practices, applied mathematical modeling, inventory control practices, and distribution network management will be a plus.
 Excellent written and verbal skills.
 Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
 Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering
 Work Experience: 5+ years in an automated DC environment and training in Lean Six Sigma (LSS) to include the use of Kaizen or similar methods.
 Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
