Barnes & Noble is looking for a motivated, talented, and passionate individual to join our Digital Experience team. This is a hands-on role, where you will have direct responsibility for our Search Engine Optimization initiatives, with the assistance of an SEO analyst that you would manage. You would be responsible for identifying strategic opportunities to improve organic search performance for You would work across internal teams to infuse SEO into merchandising, UX, creative, editorial and technology decisions to enable our digital projects to drive more customers to conversion.

Essential Functions

• Generate strategic SEO recommendations across all areas that impact SEO, including technical, structural, content and link authority.
• Show SEO leadership across the business in SEO strategy and measurement.
• Prioritize recommendations based on a complex set of business needs as well as SEO value.
• Partner with cross-discipline teams to meet the business goals, the realities of scope, and best practices for SEO.
• Perform in-depth quantitative analyses of SEO performance and provide clear conclusions.
• Analyze, document and present SEO findings clearly and concisely on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
• Be willing and able to perform every level of SEO task from hands-on keyword research and data analysis to generating SEO strategies and internal SEO training.
• Educate cross-discipline teams about the principles of SEO and how they apply to their specific responsibilities.
• Manage SEO tool and agency partners, as needed.


• BA degree and 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience, including some ecommerce experience.
• Experience in paid search as well as organic search.
• Agency experience is a plus, especially if worked on large complex accounts.
• Portfolio of IR 100-500 clients, with proven performance results that can be shared.
• Knows the working relationship between Affiliates, SEO, CSEs, Social, Local and SEM.
• Comprehensive understanding of the SEO space, and possesses general eCommerce knowledge and industry trends.
• Able to demonstrate specific experience in creative (design & editorial), technical (structural, architectural, development), and content marketing (link authority, syndication, influencing editorial calendars, working with influencers) aspects of SEO.
• Clearly communicate complex technical and marketing SEO concepts to co-workers at all levels in the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret large sets of complex data, then take appropriate action.
• Demonstrated use of advanced Excel techniques, including pivot tables, filters, formulas and v-look ups.
• Hands-on experience using web analytics reporting tools like Coremetrics or Omniture and SEO tools like Google Search Console and SEO Clarity.
• Knows and abides by Google Webmaster Guidelines.
• Multi-channel retail experience (online and offline)
