Description

Responsible for analyzing and creating data-driven recommendations to Category Managers, to include: retail or markdown pricing strategies; category, store, and market level analysis to optimize profit and sell-through; and increase market share while improving consumer value perception. Forecasts and evaluates the impact of pricing decisions and balance of sales using variables like elasticity, competitive data, indexing, and category role. Communicates price and/or markdown recommendations to Category Managers, Category Insights, Store Operations, and/or other cross-functional teams and partners closely with key clients in Merchandising. May assist in strategic project-based initiatives or ad hoc analyses, including key value item identification / analysis and calibration of pricing tools to achieve company financial goals.

Essential Functions

• Partner with Merchant and Planning teams to create optimal clearance markdown strategies to maximize margin.
• Evaluate current markdown policy and procedure to identify opportunities for improvement to profitability and sell-through.
• Manage the implementation of markdown optimization software and define/operate the business processes to achieve stated financial results.
• Develop and implement a procedure for testing and validation of changes to current markdown strategies.
• Document new markdown strategies, analyze and track progress on strategic pricing decisions.
• Build metrics, analytics, and insight generators from core reporting and dashboards for socialization of price competitiveness throughout the organization.
• Mine and translate data into meaningful insights and recommendations for the operational and strategic business units.
• Mentor and coach analysts on the team on markdown/pricing analytics and strategy.

Qualifications

• Experience with Revenue management or Pricing analysis, inventory management, and/or reviewing and analyzing retail data (such as Nielsen, IRI, etc.).
• Intermediate level skill in SQL (create complex queries using nested SELECT statements, simplify queries by creating new views, deleting and altering tables, using Boolean logic, working with NULL values, constructing queries, etc.)
• Adept with pricing or markdown optimization software.
• Ability to lead strategic projects and proactively coming up with process improvements.
• Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels within an organization.
• Ability to establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.
• Master's degree or MBA required.
• At least 7 years of experience in promotions, marketing, retail, analytics, pricing, consumer packaged goods, insights, vendor collaboration, consumer research, inventory, category management and/or business analysis.
