Barnes & Noble seeks a Social Media Analyst/Strategist to report on and analyze data, derive insights, and develop tactical strategies to guide our National and Local (Store) B&N social media programs.

The Strategist will report to the Senior Manager, Digital Content & Social Media Marketing, and will manage internal systems for data collection, define and track departmental KPIs, and translate reporting insights into actionable plans to ensure that all B&N social initiatives align to a strategic vision and voice across our B&N social channels 24/7, 365.

Essential Functions

• Report, analyze and synthesize National and Local social media data (weekly, per Campaign, and as needed) to identify opportunities and generate strategic recommendations across B&N social media platforms
• Monitor incoming feedback on social channels and partner with the Customer Service team to respond to public comments daily across B&N-owned social communities, flagging service and technology issues as needed to the appropriate response team(s).
• Listen to and monitor conversations across B&N social channels and the larger social space utilizing third-party Listening technology to optimize organic social content creation and marketing strategies; act as the key resource for these insights and share across the organization
• Engage with customers (and potential customers) as Community Manager by monitoring, moderating, and responding to consumer conversations and engagements on B&N social media channels and across the larger social space utilizing third-party Listening technology and other relevant social tools to optimize workflow
• Manage day-to-day support, reporting, training, operations, and strategic recommendations for the B&N Local (Store) social media program.
• Define National and Local (Store) social media benchmarks and KPIs and implement measurement, analytics and reporting methods to gauge success of all social media initiatives
• Identify opportunities in the social space to surface B&N digital content and authentically participate as the brand in timely, trending social topics and conversations
• Collaborate with Social Team on priority B&N initiatives and events, pitching in to provide on-site social coverage as needed
• Focus consistently on social trends. Adapt, adopt and recommend new technologies and emerging social platforms that enhance B&N’s touchpoints with fans and consumers


• BA required
• 5+ years of experience doing social media analytics reporting
• Excellence in creating quantitative reports, analyzing data, and presenting findings
• Ability to synthesize data into actionable recommendations and workflows
• Deep experience with social monitoring and measurement platforms including but not limited to Omniture, Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, and Sprinklr.
• Experience in creating and applying social listening reports
• Experience with non-native social media publishing tools
• Motivated self-starter, process-oriented with high attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills, fluency in PowerPoint
• Strong organizational and project management skills
