As a regional business development manager (RBDM), you maximize external sales opportunities in your region through the creation and implementation of sales-driving programs and initiatives. You deliver customized training and development to field partners on the effective use of company programs and sales initiatives. You partner with Home Office team members to set goals, analyze impact, improve programs and drive sales.

Essential Functions

• Ensure field partners effectively execute initiatives that increase institutional, corporate, book fair, educator, and bulk digital sales, collaborating with appropriate departments as needed. Analyze and provide feedback to RVPs and DMs on store performance by conducting store visits, gathering and analyzing data, identifying trends and assessing store business development programs • Coach DMs, SMs and CBDMs on sales-driving action plans and solutions that drive sales and improve return on investment (ROI) • Identify sales procedures for regional accounts and research opportunities for Requests for Proposals (RFPs), vendor relationships and bids to drive business • Interview CBDM candidates and provide feedback to RVPs, DMs and SMs • Train new DMs, SMs and CBDMs in the region on all aspects of business development • Suggest new content and updates to training materials and programs, partnering with the Business Development and Learning and Development teams • Cultivate new sales opportunities and solutions with schools, libraries and other educational and corporate platforms • Maintain and expand customer base by building and maintaining rapport with key customers; and identifying new customer opportunities • Negotiate and identify partners for regional promotions, conferences, and other sales opportunities • Drive additional sales channels by identifying new products, packaging, and services based on consumer needs and business trends


• Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills • Ability to analyze, design and implement short-term and long-term sales initiatives • Spend approximately 80% traveling to stores and meetings • College degree preferred • At least five years managerial experience in preferably outside sales or community relations in retail
