The Vendor & Product Compliance Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Product Compliance Program as well as components of the Vendor Compliance and Social & Environmental Responsibility (SER) programs including:

Leading the development and implementation of cross-functional processes, procedures and tools to efficiently manage the product compliance program.
Monitoring regulatory updates that impact our business, provide updates, and develop strategies for implementing new processes, as necessary.
Identifying process improvements and cost saving opportunities, recommend solutions and oversee the implementation.

Essential Functions

• Collect and analyze product data and documentation with a proactive approach to assessing risk.
• Lead product review process with Merchants. Review new product and associated documentation; confer with testing labs, as needed.
• Conduct risk investigations in collaboration with Legal, Merchants, Vendors and Testing Labs including all communication, documentation, follow-up, and implementation of final disposition of affected inventory.
• Initiate product recall communication process to stores and internal stakeholders as directed by Department Head; track store responses to recall projects, escalate as needed, to ensure completion of task(s).
• Prepare and maintain Conflict Minerals Due Diligence Logs ensuring all relevant information is documented and meets the established internal audit criteria. Validate vendor responses and report exceptions.
• Oversee and provide insight and analysis to any given certification collection process, and conduct initial analysis of collected data to identify any B&N reporting obligations. Ensure that the collection and storage methodology is in keeping with best practices and department standards.
• Conduct initial assessment of safety test and pre-shipment inspection reports and recommend options for corrective course of action. Communicate corrective actions to vendors and internal stakeholders. Create reporting to monitor vendor performance in regard to product safety.
• Work closely with B&N designated testing lab(s) to monitor product pre-shipment inspection reports, product test reports, and factory audit reports. Create reporting to monitor testing lab performance.
• Initiate communication and participate in internal training and outreach sessions with Merchants and other relevant B&N departments.
• Effectively manage projects as assigned - establishing clear project objectives, leading a project team, and managing milestones to successful project completion.


• Possess excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills related to customer support, document storage and retrieval, project ownership and time management
• Strategic thinker
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to support multiple projects
• Strong research, data mining, reporting and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Capacity to work well with diverse groups on multiple projects
• Proficient in MS Office (particularly Excel), Visio and Access
• Must be proactive, a self-starter and flexible
• Some travel between B&N offices and to off-site meetings and seminars as required
• B.S/B.A in Business or related field required
• 7+ years’ experience with compliance related projects, product management related to supply chain, procurement or production, and/or monitoring vendor performance and analysis of results in a retail or supplier organization.
